I worked on the national broadcast graphics package at Hearst Television (aka the Diagrid) as part of the Orlando-based HTV Design team. I’ve also built a ton of graphics packages for my own podcasts. Still, I love proving I can still pull those exact same skills out for a lean, independent show like this recent client. With just a logo to work from, I created a full graphics package in After Effects with lower thirds, 2-boxes, and other standard screens then exported out MOGRTs so I could drag, drop, and edit the on-screen graphics quickly in Adobe Premiere.
Since they had album art for their show already, the design process was straightforward. I put together a quick style guide that outlined the typeface, colors, etc. from the album art, then used the style guide to create the handful of templates you see above. After that, I simply brought my Photoshop files into After Effects and rigged them up for editing using the MOGRT/Essential Graphics panel. Then, I added the MOGRTs back into Premiere. Now, all I have to do to start a new episode is click the MOGRT on my timelines and change out the name/information.
Trivia: When I worked for Hearst, I was an early beta tester with our partner Adobe for MOGRTs. I used them to build out a full Social Graphics Toolkit, allowing our social producers the ability to create on-brand graphics for the burgeoning (in 2018-2019) social video market.
