Two years ago, Gun.io, a tech startup based in Nashville, brought me on board to edit their podcast The Frontier. The podcast was a few years old, and the team was seeking a refresh. As a marketplace for freelance tech workers, Gun.io was a natural fit given my history as a freelancer.

After two years and 100+ episodes, the team at Gun.io is refreshing their content strategy again (with the help of Taylor Desseyn), and unfortunately I won’t be a part of the team moving forward. I’m incredibly proud of the content we made over the last couple years. Working alongside Faith Benson and Abbey Charles during the first half of my tenure, and later just with Abbey, was a joy. It’s wonderful to be part of a team that communicates well, fosters trust, and genuinely cares about the content they’re creating.

One of my favorite ‘eras’ of the podcast was when we launched a second weekly episode, ‘This Week in Tech History’ (‘TWiTH’). Since my podcasting journey began discussing the Old Wide Web, hunting for archival clips to enhance Abbey’s skillfully written introductions felt like a homecoming. When possible, I would dive deep into the subject, turning the first two to four minutes of the episode into a mini-documentary that could be repurposed for social media, followed by a panel discussion on the topic.

Unlike every other podcast I’ve ever done, my only responsibility on The Frontier was editing the audio and video. No making a show doc, no talking into a microphone, no promoting the episodes on social. Since editing was all I had to do, it gave me a chance to sharpen my skills/workflows and made me an even better editor. Now, my edits are faster, my footage looks and sounds better, and my projects are archived more efficiently than two years ago. Every personal creative project I’ve created while working for Gun.io (namely Where I’m From and Everly Heights) looks and sounds better thanks to The Frontier. My work with generative AI for Everly Heights also helped me increase quality of video, audio, and even YouTube thumbnails on The Frontier. As always, my personal and professional creative projects informed and improved each other.

Now, I’m looking for my next great adventure. New frontiers, if you will. I’m a pretty unique creator with a lot of diverse experience (see my resume below), but at the end of the day I want to make fun content with cool people, preferably face-to-face here in Los Angeles. I’m always interested in editing/hosting/planning/producing a new podcast. My work in Generative AI with Everly Heights over the last two years has also put me ahead-of-the-pack when it comes to emerging creative tech.
